1. Can I copy this FAQ?Nothing in here is super-secret or anything, and if you want to copy an answer to a forum post or whatever, be my guest. I'd ask that you not copy the entire FAQ verbatim out of respect to both myself and your readers. Myself because I think I deserve a bit of credit for the FAQ, but even moreso for your readers because the FAQ will be changed, added to, and clarified over time - if you just copy the contents they'll miss out on any updates. Please link to the FAQ instead. 2. Is alchemy profitable in Wrath of the Lich King?I hesitate to make general proclaimations like this, but generally, yes. It sort of depends on your server's economy, but generally it is very easy to make decent money off Alchemy. I won't go into it too much here, instead check out my guide for profiting from Alchemy. 3. What level do I get the Flask recipes in Wrath of the Lich King at?435 4. Who teaches the WotLK Flask recipes? There are 5 trainers who will teach you the flasks: 5. How do I switch specializations?First, you have to speak to the correct NPC for your current specialization and pay 150 gold to unlearn your current specialization.
For potions, this is Lauranna Tharwell in Cenarion Refuge.
For elixirs, this is Lorokeem in Shattrath.
For transmutes, this is Zarevhi in Stormspire (Netherstorm).
6. I want to spec into elixirs, but nobody is running Black Morass these days!If you currently have a specialization, see item 4 - you don't have to do the quest to switch to elixir. If you don't have a specialization, you can always do the transmute spec which requires no instance runs, just 4x Primal Might. Then you can pay 150g to immediately unlearn it and go spec into elixirs. This is expensive, but saves you instance runs. 7. What is Mixology?Mixology is a nice perk for Alchemists that doubles the duration of our Flasks and Elixirs, and increases their effect, usually by 30-50%. You must know the recipe for the flask/elixir you use in order to benefit from the effect. 8. How much does Mixology increase the effect of flasks/potions?
It depends on the specific item, but usually is in the range of 30-50%. I did research the following flask effects: 9. What is the proc rate for Alchemy specialties in Wrath of the Lich King?In The Burning Crusade, the proc rate was generally assumed to be around 17% overall. Anecdotal evidence points to this being roughly the case in WotLK as well, but more research is needed. I plan on doing some tests this week, creating a large number of a handful of recipes to try to get a more accurate proc rate. Check back for more information in the next few days. Feel free to email me if you have results of your own you'd like to share. 10. What changes can we expect in 3.0.8 for Alchemy? There aren't a ton of changes for alchemy in 3.0.8, but here are the big ones: |
